As I wearily wound my way towards the mountain, the last rays of light burst through the clouds heralding sunset . Thick mysterious clouds of mist were everywhere to behold, surrounding me, their beautiful white hue and cold sensation, struck the core of my being. Long moments seemed to pass as my mind continually urging my exhausted body onward till finally I approached the summit. Fatigued yet exhilarated I glanced over towards the horizon where the glory of the sun was fading behind the mountains. The evening light created a natural tapestry of immense beauty. Silhouettes of trees lining the mountainside intermingled with the soft fading light and drifting wisps of angelic clouds. Such raw beauty was truly inspirational to behold; I stood for long moments staring into the horizon. In silence so profound, I stood at the edge of the world as Dostoevsky’s words “Beauty will save the World” resonated in the depths of my soul.
The flow of distant water was a melody that mingled effortlessly and blended gracefully with the song of birds lifting and falling away with the chorus of the wind. Descending the steep slope, I brushed past the splendid fronds of magnificent tree palms that graced my path forming a natural cathedral. The cool wind on my face provided relief from my tired muscles; the trek had been long and arduous yet every step manifested great joy as I rejoiced at the Garden of Eden that surrounded me. The once distant sound of churning of waters gradually became more noticeable and as the dense tree ferns gently gave way to sparser flora, I suddenly found myself in a pool of clear fresh water. The noise of flowing water grew louder and as I looked up a magnificent waterfall amidst a tropical rainforest cascaded forth in all its beauty.
The winding track from the campsite quickly changed drastically as I walked towards the coastline. On either side rolling forested hills gave way to coastal grassland, broken by a meandering river that wound its way effortlessly towards the ocean. Looking out yonder towards the distant mountains I was captivated by the stark contrast in landscape. Magnificent clouds strewn across Heaven, crowned the distant mountains. I paused in silence for long moments; there was no need for words. Nature itself lifted its voice in a melodic chorus of profound beauty. The gentle churning of the water, mingled with the fleeting whisper of the wind dancing about, rustling through the treetops and blades of grass. It was quite a long time before I reluctantly continued my walk into the virgin wilderness that lay before me.

Wandering along the seashore, I smiled as my feet marked out a path of desolate footprints along the fine brown sand; the waters of the flowing river lapped gently at my feet. I smiled with childlike innocent joy as I felt the sun’s warmth course through my body. All alone surrounded by the beauty of nature I experienced an immense sense of belonging and peace well within me. Slowly looking up towards heaven itself, I was seized by the sheer beauty of what lay before me. The sound of flowing water coursing towards the ocean mingled with the soft wind that gently caressed my face, manifesting a heavenly chorus. The pure white clouds spreading their celestial beauty across the blue Heaven struck a deep chord within my soul. Standing in reverent silence, I was humbled before such magnificence. Deep within the depths of my mind heart and soul I rejoiced at the providence of God and His amazing outpouring of love as experienced in His Creation.
Alone perched upon a ragged red boulder I looked out towards the ocean, oblivious to the waves which menacingly splashed around me. It was if a sea of white foam coursed all around, engulfing everything in its path and then retreating albeit hesitantly into the depths of the Ocean. The winds danced wildly amidst the boulders rising occasionally into a crescendo at once in harmony with the sound of waves splashing around me. I was all alone yet an inner peace gripped my soul, awesome to behold. There are moments of sheer beauty when one must pause and be silent, for only in silence can one even dare to contemplate true beauty. A silence which commands our every sense and manifests the magnificence of Creation in all its splendour. I sat in silence for long moments; deep from within my mind, heart and soul resonated the psalmist “Be still, and know that I am God”
Walking along the cliff edge that comprised the western aspect of this rugged windswept cape, I gazed out across the ocean towards two lone islets. The waves seemed to relentlessly pound against their shores and curtains of sea water were swept up and caught in a tumultuous dance by the turbulent winds. I gazed out across the beautiful peninsula, comprising a mosaic of coastal bush, grass, rocks and dominated by a simple sandstone lighthouse. After long moments looking out towards the ocean I continued along the wooden bridge that wound its way along the cliff edge steadily descending, while bracing against gale force winds. I laughed with joy as I reminisced about my wonderful experience in the Shetland Islands. Eventually negotiating a sharp corner I suddenly stopped. I stood in awe, transfixed at the huge and vast cavern before me, bathed in the golden splendour of sunrise that opened up into the ocean. Violent winds sent mists of sea-spray like curtains of rainfall. The sight was truly magnificent to behold.
