When I was a young boy troubled by the challenges of childhood, I wrote a poem with the sincerity and innocence of youth which I would like to share with you. I love encouraging people to be true to themselves and express those God given gifts that everyone is blessed with for the fulfillment of peace, joy and purpose within our lives, while helping and inspiring our fellow neighbour. Being true to oneself is of utmost importance and takes much courage. From my youth, the serenity, adventure and sheer beauty of the world around me resonated deeply within my mind, heart and soul. What I experienced and felt a need to express found a creative outlet through my passion and love for poetry and photography
“A persons life is like that of a candle
A mere flame amongst a great many

An adventurous spirit combined with a love of exploration instilled within me a passion for photography at an early age. Having a deep love for nature, I felt instinctively drawn to the serenity, solitude and natural beauty offered by landscape photography which perfectly complemented my calm, deeply reflective nature. “The more I explore the amazing world that we live in, the less I seem to know, yet the more I’m inspired to experience that which I do not know.”
The exotic natural beauty of Australia and picturesque brilliance of Europe with its rich history and cultural diversity have provided ample sources of inspiration. Australia is blessed with wild, rugged beauty, vast spaces and diverse terrain amazing to behold. Europe is historically, culturally and geographically the richest and most diverse continent that I have yet experienced. With a vast heritage it never ceases to amaze me, and is dear to my heart.
Photography is a powerful medium that can express an individuals’ life experience to manifest something poignant within ones soul. I always ask myself what legacy do I aspire to leave behind, and in what way has my life had an impact on the lives of the amazing people who I’ve been blessed to have experienced throughout my travels. Photographymemoirs as experienced through my eyes and footsteps is my personal Odyssey that I would love to share with you.

You are most welcome. I love the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Europe. Germany, an amazing place to photograph is one of my favourite destinations. Australia indeed is blessed with beautiful nature, Wilson’s Promontory being the most beautiful place that I’ve ever experienced.
I got to Croatia and Venice a year ago – a dream come true for a land-locked prairie girl with a passion for history and literature!! I dream of more travel to come – so I love to see your pictures of Bavaria, an area I would love to visit. I also have distant family there… Nice to meet you, Konstantine! 🙂
It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you Melody. Europe is truly a spectacular continent to photograph, not only geographically, but also from a historical and cultural perspective. It’s extremely rich and diverse continent; furthermore, if you make the effort to learn the culture and language the people are quite friendly.
I absolutely loved my experience trying out some new words in Croatia – unfortunately, I hadn’t caught the photography bug yet, so my photos are bland and uninspired. I will definitely need to save up my pennies for another go! 🙂
Great idea, Europe is my favourite destination. The geography is beautiful and it has an amazing heritage blessed with a diverse, rich history and vibrant culture. I can speak French and basic German but would like to improve both areas. Languages along with photography and poetry are my most loved interests.

Thank you for your generous words. I have always been a deep thinker and reflected much on life from a young age, looking towards my inner being for a creative expression and outlet. I express myself after much contemplation in thoughts and words, which tend to flow easily. I wrote this poem when in high school, so I would have been around 14 or 15 years of age. Unfortunately our society often neglects the creative beauty that our heart mind and soul reflect. I’m going to make a conscious effort to rediscover the beauty of poetry once more. My oldest son is 14 and I call him superman. He is strong, handsome, intelligent, fast..the total package. He can do anything…. figuratively of course. I don’t want him to waste his youth staring at an iPhone. He can do so much good. Your poem demonstrates the great potential that teens have to affect the world for the better. If only the european christmas would have been white… it was far too warm (around 15° C) and far too rainy. so i envy your perfect weather in the city i miss most a bit 😉
So sorry to hear that. I promise that next year when I visit Germany I’ll pack some nice “Sunny Melbourne weather” in my luggage (I’ll have to take a big suitcase) and then when I land in Germany, I’ll climb the Bavarian Alps, wait for a North wind to blow then open my suitcase so that all of Germany is bathed in beautiful warm sunny weather. 🙂

Thank you for the lovely compliments Robyn Lee, they are most generous indeed. I was quite young when I wrote my poem. The secret of life is to kindle the flame within ones heart, so that the light within burns bright otherwise, tribulation can cause it to momentary flicker. Thank you also for taking the time to enjoy my photographs, they give me much joy especially all the experiences attached to them. On reflection, I’d hesitate to consider myself proud regarding any my achievements actually, as I attribute all my gifts and achievements to God’s grace at work within me. Peace and joy within is closer to the truth.

Profound words indeed. The image of light shining in darkness is quite powerful, and is especially prevalent in Christianity. I could always look into someones’ eyes and perceive the nature of someone, much like a child actually. I’ve always believed that “The eyes are the window into ones soul”. It’s wonderful when we can express that light within us creatively such that we may find the peace and joy of God within, while sharing our experiences with those around us. 🙂

Thank you for your heartfelt words which warm my mind, heart and soul. Many long years ago, after sharing a conversation with a young friend of mine at University, she responded “I wish I had your wisdom”. I looked at her innocence, smiled sadly and replied deep in thought …”You yearn for that which can only be experienced through two paths, pain with suffering, and time”. Time will be our companion till we pass away, and is unavoidable, but do you really yearn and are prepared for pain and suffering in the pursuit of wisdom?”.

Thank you for your kind words. I think the key at any point of our life is to be true to our calling and live out the unique gifts that God has blessed us with. Our life’s’ journey is always a difficult one, and I think that along the way we tend to get easily sidetracked. Wisdom and dedication are noble qualities hard to attain of themselves, however the courage to manifest these is even more difficult. I’m still learning about all these, and especially the qualities of humility and love.

The poem is simple but beautiful in that it was manifested through the mind, heart and soul of a young boy who had already experienced hardships at many levels and yearned to discover the truth and purpose of ones’ existence. Dostoyevsy wrote “Beauty will save the World”. In this he realised that the physical beauty of this world is merely a reflection of a Heavenly Reality.
