“Sometimes all it takes is to simply pause and be present in “the now” to experience the beautiful moments in our life…”

Driving along an unknown road skirting the border between Austria and Germany, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a simple shed contrasted beautifully against the majesty of the Swiss Alps in the background. Instinctively, I stopped the car and walked onto the footpath, spellbound. I stared at this magnificent scene for a long time, deep in reverie. Sometimes, all it takes is to simply pause and be present in “the now” to experience the beautiful moments in our life, for they are the moments that one can engrave within the depths of ones heart, or be lost forever.

“In silence so profound, I stood at the edge of the world…”

As I wearily wound my way towards the mountain, the last rays of light burst through the clouds heralding sunset . Thick mysterious clouds of mist were everywhere to behold, surrounding me, their beautiful white hue and cold sensation, struck the core of my being. Long moments seemed to pass as my mind continually urging my exhausted body onward till finally I approached the summit. Fatigued yet exhilarated I glanced over towards the horizon where the glory of the sun was fading behind the mountains. The evening light created a natural tapestry of immense beauty. Silhouettes of trees lining the mountainside intermingled with the soft fading light and drifting wisps of angelic clouds.  Such raw beauty was truly inspirational to behold; I stood for long moments staring into the horizon. In silence so profound, I stood at the edge of the world as Dostoevsky’s words “Beauty will save the World” resonated in the depths of my soul.

“Full of joy, a silent prayer resonated within my soul, rejoicing at the beauty of God’s creation”

The veil of darkness that clung on desperately prior to sunrise was broken by the soft moonlight that managed to filter through the treetops illuminating the earth beneath my feet as I slowly made my way up towards the mountain summit, weaving my way between an almost invisible mosaic of rocks, stones, tree roots and bushes. The cold winter wind was surprisingly gentle that night, and as I gazed up towards Heaven itself, bright stars and a full moon cast their beautiful glow. I momentarily paused to appreciate their beautiful radiance. They seemed as precious jewels strewn across the galaxy; a divine tapestry of celestial beauty. With difficulty I withdrew my gaze and resumed my trek up the steep incline with renewed vigour, anticipating the splendour of sunrise. As I neared a cluster of huge boulders I climbed the imposing rock edifice steadily; suddenly I reached the mountain summit. Standing in reverent awe, I looked out eastwards towards the horizon, stretching out my hands in praise. My heart stirred, full of joy; a silent prayer resonated deep within my soul, rejoicing at the beauty of God’s creation, as the first rays of sunrise cast forth their divine beauty across the face of the Earth.

“I was walking at the edge of the world”

As the sun began its journey westwards, the heavens cast their brilliant rays across the entire earth illuminating it with a myriad of hues. The radiant blue sky stretching over the snow capped Alps contrasted magnificently with the soft white angelic clouds. Walking along the ridge of the mountain I could not help but pause and look out in the distance, dimly aware of the cold autumn winds which playing danced around me, gently caressing my face. The sight was truly magnificent and beautiful to behold; one of those moments that I wanted to last for all eternity. With the sun’s descending behind the mountains I could now appreciate the full beauty of what lay before me, not having to shield my eyes from the radiance of the sun. The serenity, joy and exhilaration that I felt during my experience on this mountain was unsurpassed. I was walking at the edge of the world; within the depths of my mind heart and soul a voice gently whispered “Heaven on Earth”.
